Royal Christmas for Meghan Markle as She Joins the Queen and Family at Sandringham Church

Prince Harry and his American fiancée Meghan Markle arrived arm in arm at the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk this morning, along with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, who is pregnant with their third child.

Prince Philip – the Duke of Edinburgh, who arrived in a car with the Queen and the Prince of Wales, was seen leading the two couples to the estate’s St. Mary Magdalene Church.

The royal fiancée – soon-to-be royal wife of Prince Harry – was wearing a stylish camel-color Sentaler wrap coat (£986), dark brown hat with matching Stuart Weitzman boots and Chloe shoulder bag.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked no less attractive in her £2,665 red and green checked Miu Miu coat.

Queen Elizabeth II looked elegant and in the pink of health as she acknowledged the crowd with a wave and a smile.

Last year, a “heavy cold” had kept the Queen from attending the annual Christmas day celebration, which she had never missed ever since she began celebrating Christmas at Sandringham in 1988.

Hundreds of admirers of the royal family turned out in the relatively mild weather for a glimpse of their favorite royals and to shout out their Christmas greetings as the royals passed by.

Prince Harry and Markle even stopped to chat up some of the crowd members on their way back to Sandringham House after the service.

Markle looked pretty much at ease as she walked arm in arm with her prince charming at her side, smiling and chatting with Kate who was walking alongside the engaged couple with her own prince at her side.

While it is confirmed that the engaged couple will stay at Nottingham Cottage, for Christmas they will be the guests of Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton at their Anmer Hall home in Norfolk, England.

Having Markle at the royal Christmas celebration, who is not yet Prince Harry’s wife, is a shift from tradition –a clear deviation from royal protocol – agreed to by none other than the Queen herself.

Royal watcher Richard Fitzwilliams told last month that, “In 2010 Kate was not invited after her engagement to William nor was Mike Tindall after his to Zara Phillips. Only spouses and close family are usually invited. However, Harry and Meghan will be living together at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace and her family are in the United States. The monarchy relies heavily on precedent and tradition but it also makes its own.”

“Given that Meghan doesn’t have family in the U.K., it’s only right that she spends Christmas with Harry and his,” an Us Magazine source had informed the weekly a few days ago. “Harry asked the queen for permission last month and she is delighted to have Harry bring his fiancée. It is a family occasion, after all, and Meghan is very much family now”

After more than a year of dating, Prince Harry and Markle made their engagement official last month through a Clarence House statement which said:

“His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle.”

The royal statement also confirmed that the wedding will take place in the spring of 2018 and that the couple will live in Nottingham Cottage, Kensington Palace.

First Public Appearance for Kate Middleton Since Announcing Her Third Pregnancy

Looking radiant in a light blue Temperley London lace outfit, Kate Middleton made her first public appearance Tuesday since announcing her third pregnancy early last month.

The expecting Duchess, together with husband Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry, hosted the Heads Together Mental Health Charity reception at Buckingham Palace to mark the World Mental Health Day 2017.

Before this, Kate was last seen in public on August 30 at the White Gardens to honor the 20th death anniversary of mother-in-law Lady Diana, who died in a horrific car crash in Paris in August 1997.

The reason for her prolonged absence from the public eye has been attributed to Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a type of severe morning sickness that the Duchess of Cambridge suffers from. In fact, the condition has been so severe over the past month that it even caused her to miss an important event like her son Prince George‘s first day of school.

“The Duchess’ condition is improving but she’s still suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum,” a royal aide said. “She’s delighted to be here tonight.”

The Duchess and the Prince brothers are reported to have entered the august gathering by way of a concealed door in the palace’s white drawing room to welcome guests, including former UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, model Adwoa Aboah, and Mind president and comic Stephen Fry as well as representatives from the mental health sector.

A Writer and an avid mental health campaigner, Stephen Fry addressed the gathering in a short speech commending the young royal trio’s attitude towards mental health, calling Heads Together an “incredible achievement.”

“I do understand she’s been having this problem more severely than many pregnant mothers,” Fry said about Middleton’s morning sickness, “and so we’re very grateful [she’s here].”

Speaking at an earlier reception at St. James’ Palace, Prince William praised his wife for having been the motivating force behind Heads Together and that they were “proud to have played a part in this.”

“It was Catherine who first realized that all three of us were working on mental health in our individual areas of focus,” the older Prince said. “She had seen that at the core of adult issues like addiction and family breakdown, unresolved childhood mental health issues were often part of the problem.”

The younger Prince was also “incredibly grateful” to all those who supported Heads Together adding that there was still work to be done.

“All of you contributed to the first truly national conversation on mental health,” he said. “All of you helped change the language around this issue, shifting away from fear and shame, to a more open and optimistic sense about what we can achieve when we simply start talking. All of you showed what is possible when we get our Heads Together.”

The three royals are extremely passionate about their pet project and have been active crusaders against the stigma attached to mental health issues. They have been campaigning hard for Heads Together the entire year.

Their royal efforts include an animated film created by the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families that focuses on the subject; handing out headbands at the Royal Marathon; and featuring in a video where the three have a personal discussion about mental health, in addition to many other initiatives Kate, William and Harry have taken to forward the cause of Heads Together.

Royals Speak About the Stigma and Silence Attached to Mental Health Issues

Prince William – Duke of Cambridge, his wife Kate Middleton – Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Harry – the Duke’s brother were candid about their concerns on the silence on mental health issues at an event held in central London to promote their “Heads Together” mental health charity.

As mentioned on the official website of the charity, “Heads Together” is the Charity of the Year for the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon. We want to make it an opportunity to get the country talking about mental health and our runners are leading the way.”

They were at the event to encourage people to openly speak out about their psychological problems and other mental health issues.

The trio leading the “Heads Together” initiative of removing the stigma attached to mental illnesses and the resultant silence on the matter gave speeches at the promotional event.

The Duke of Cambridge spoke about the silent suffering of too many people over long periods of time and not opening up about their conditions mainly due to the stigma attached to mental health.

“The effects of this can be devastating,” he said about the silence on mental issues. “The three of us are really optimistic that things are changing. We believe that 2017 can mark a tipping point for mental health — a moment when more and more people no longer feel they have to bear the weight alone for fear of judgment.”

In her speech, the Duchess stressed upon the importance of reaching out to others for help instead of suffering in silence which is the cause of further progression of mental illnesses.

“The challenge that so many people have is not knowing how to take that first step of reaching out to another person for help,” the Duchess explained.

“Admitting that they are not coping. Fear, or reticence, or a sense of not wanting to burden another, means that people suffer in silence, allowing the problem to grow larger and larger unchecked,” the Duchess said to the audience.

Prince Harry, in his speech, stressed upon the need to be candid about one’s condition. He hoped that their mission to end the stigma and taboo attached to psychological issues would encourage people not have any apprehensions about discussing their condition with others. Helping one another was the important thing to do.

“The truth is we can all help each other. You don’t need any qualifications to help your mate out, simply listen to what they have to say. At the heart of this campaign is our hope that no one should be afraid to ask for help, and no one should worry about knowing how to help,” added Prince Harry.

The mental charity marathon set for April this year will not see the “Heads Together” trio run in the marathon, most likely, for security reasons; however, they will certainly make an appearance to cheer the marathon participants from the sidelines.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte Attend the First Christmas Day Church Service

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine, in a conspicuous shift from tradition, decided to spend Christmas with Catherine’s family, the Middletons, and together attended the Christmas Day church service at St Mark’s Church in Englefield, Berkshire.

Meanwhile, as usual, other members of the Royal family attended the Christmas Day church service at Sandringham and the absence of the Queen of England did not go unnoticed – she was rather unwell to attend the traditional church service according to Buckingham Palace sources.

“Her Majesty the Queen will not attend church at Sandringham this morning.

“The Queen continues to recover from a heavy cold and will stay indoors to assist with her recovery. Her Majesty will participate in the royal family Christmas celebrations during the day,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said.

Coming back to the St. Mark’ church service, the young Prince George, his sister Princess Charlotte accompanied by parents, William and Catherine, maternal grandparents, Michael and Carol Middleton, and other members of the Middleton family including Kate’s brother James Middleton, her sister Pippa Middleton and her fiancé James Matthews were a delight for photograph hunters.

In one such picture, which demands a second look, the three-year-old prince is seen sucking on a lollipop holding his father’s hand – rather cute!

This happened to be the first time Prince William and Kate took their children to a Christmas Day church service, which one hopes, continues for many more Christmases.

The service was led by Reverend Nick Wynne-Jones who opened with a rendition “Joy of the World” after which the congregation went through the Holy Communion ritual. The service lasted for an hour, or thereabouts.

Christmas Day at the Middleton House is believed to be a less formal fun day when compared to the highly traditional Sandringham Christmas day where almost everything is done according to preset timetables.

Princess Kate Sparkles at the Annual White Tie Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William, and Princess Kate, attended the Annual White Tie Diplomatic Reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at the Buckingham Palace on December 8, 2016. They were accompanied by the Prince of Wales (Prince Charles) and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

The glamorous and regal white tie affair, also known as the ‘full evening dress,’ is one of the most formal dress codes in the western world. Generally, in such events, women wear full-length evening or ball gown and, optionally, jewelry, tiaras, a small bag and evening gloves.

Kate wore the Lover’s Knot tiara, which was one of Princess Diana’s favourite headpieces.
Kate wore the Lover’s Knot tiara, which was one of Princess Diana’s favourite headpieces.

Likewise, gentlemen are attired as formally as the ladies in attendance, in white starched shirts, Marcella waistcoats, and the iconic white bow tie worn around a detachable collar. High-waisted black trousers and patent leather shoes complete the outfit. The odd top hat and white scarf are acceptable accessories.

This year, the Duchess of Cambridge, now Princess Kate since her marriage to Prince William, looked stunning and regal in a red dress by designer Jenny Packham, the same she chose for her first state dinner with the Chinese President.

The headpiece she wore, again not for the first time, the famous pearl-and-diamond-clad Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara, given to the late Princess Diana by the Queen in 1981, along with her diamond chandelier earrings, just added to the glamor.

The Queen looked very much the part (Queen and host) in a white dress designed by Angela Kelly and her diamond and sapphire tiara, while the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, looked no less elegant clad in a white beaded gown by Bruce Oldfield and Boucheron tiara, a pearl choker and diamond earrings.

This year’s December white-tie diplomatic reception witnessed Prince Philip – the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles – the Prince of Wales, and Prince William – the Duke of Cambridge in white ties with the Order of the Garter. Unlike State Banquets, as this is the grandest event, the Royal gentlemen wear knee-britches and the actual Garter with the sash over their white tie.

The diplomatic reception, hosted annually by the Queen, is a white-tie affair attended by the Royal Family members and guests including diplomats and royalties from other nations.

This year was no different – in attendance, among the senior members of the Royal Family, were Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Phillip, Princess Kate, and the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla along with over one thousand guests from 130 nations.

In addition to ambassadors, high commissioners, and their partners, about six hundred foreign diplomats, based in London, were among the guests together with around three hundred British diplomats and senior figures from commerce, education, broadcasting and the arts.

It has been a private event for many years and usually pictures of the event are not released. However, this year the Royal Family account on Twitter, much to the delight of those interested in such events, did release a group photo prior to the reception.
